Modern English School Celebrates Assam’s Rich Culture at the Assam Book Fair
In a spectacular showcase of Assam’s culturally rich heritage, Modern English School, Kahilipara, proudly presented the program ‘Haathe Haath Dhori- Ek Samnnay Yatra’ at the Assam Book Fair 2023-24. The event was held on January 5, 2023 at the Assam Engineering Institute playground in Guwahati’s Chandmari, featured over 75 students who passionately delved into the vibrant traditions, diverse ethnicities, and unique art forms that define the essence of Assam. The program is scripted and directed by Mr. Pratul Kumar Sarma.
Against the backdrop of the Assam Book Fair, our school aimed to capture the morning vibes of the tradition-bound rural society of Assam. The program highlighted the extensive practice of day-to-day rituals and the beauty of blending varieties of different cultures from various ethnic groups within the state, showcasing the unique identity of the incredible Assam. The theme ‘Haathe Haath Dhori’ served as the guiding spirit for the one-hour program, where students embodied the spirit of unity and cultural diversity through their performances.
During the event, students of Modern English School Kahilipara showcased the rich tapestry of Assam’s cultural narrative.
Through traditional folktales, folksongs, and performances of renowned poets and singers, they beautifully depicted the tender age of childhood, filled with curiosity and imagination.
The program also paid tribute to the literary giants of Assam, including the esteemed late poet Hem Barua and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The recitation of the beautiful poem “Mamatar Chithi” by Hem Barua and the rendition of “Pratidhwani Shunu Moi” by Dr. Bhupen Hazarika were poignant examples of the extraordinary works that reflect the cultural richness of Assam.
In addition to the artistic performances, the program took the audience on a literary journey, exploring the tales of the Bihu festival, the graceful Sattriya dance, and the mystical tea gardens that define Assam’s identity. The books presented painted a vivid picture of the state’s historical narratives, weaving a tapestry of its folklore, rituals, and the enduring spirit of its people.
