NFRSA won the title of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament 2024 on the basis of the first innings lead against Tezpur in the final (4-day format) played at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Monday (July 8).
On the final day, Tezpur were 171/7 in 23.3 overs in their second innings when the match ended in a draw. Rajjakuddin Ahmed played a quickfire innings, scoring 50 runs off just 29 balls, while Bastab Basumatary contributed with a swift 40 runs off 26 balls. Krishna Das shone with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 68 runs.
Earlier in the day, NFRSA were all out for 223 in 86.1 overs in their second innings. Sarupam Purakayastha was the standout performer, scoring a remarkable 156 runs. Gaurav Chetry’s brilliant bowling in the second innings, taking 5 wickets for 84 runs, was instrumental in restricting NFRSA’s total.
On the first day of the match, Tezpur winning the toss opted to field. NFRSA posted 354/10 in 122.1 overs. And Tezpur was all out for 193 in 94.3 overs in their first innings offering vital lead to the NFRSA.
The tournament was organised by the Assam Cricket Association; the semifinals and final were hosted by the Guwahati Sports Association.
