Modern English School, Kahilipara, successfully hosted the 1st All Assam Inter-School Chess Championship on August 16-17, 2024, bringing together over 150 students from 30 schools across Assam. This two-day event aimed to foster mental agility, strategic thinking, and friendly competition among the stdents.
Students competed across three categories—Class 1-4, 5-8, and 9-12—each divided into separate boys’ and girls’ divisions. The participants demonstrated remarkable skill and perseverance throughout the tournament. The Best School Award was clinched by St. Francis De Sales School (SFS), Narengi, with Delhi Public School, Guwahati as the runner-up.

The event was overseen by an esteemed panel of judges, including FIDE Arbiter Mr. Gulap Chandra Gogoi and Senior National Arbiters Mr. Rajnish Barma, Mr. Homen Rabha, and Mr. Prayag Hazarika. The competition concluded with 25 top scorers receiving trophies and certificates, while all participants were honored with participation certificates.
The Principal of Modern English School, Mrs. Jonali Das, expressed her excitement about the championship’s success:

Chess Coach at Modern English School, Mr. Bipin Sinha, praised the students’ efforts, “The level of skill and passion displayed by the participants has been truly inspiring. Chess is a game of patience and strategy, and seeing so many young minds excel is rewarding. We hope this championship has ignited a lifelong love for the game in each student.”
The event concluded on a high note, marking a memorable first edition of the All-Assam Inter-School Chess Championship.
The chess championship was the latest in a series of events aimed at the overall development of students, following the school’s successful All Assam Inter-School Yogasana Championship on August 10, 2024.
