On the occasion of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Sthapana Diwas’ on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent heartfelt greetings to the party leaders and workers. He also expressed gratitude to those who have devoted themselves over the years to the growth and strengthening of the party.

The BJP was officially founded on April 6, 1980, during a workers’ convention at Kotla Ground in New Delhi, with Atal Bihari Vajpayee becoming its first president.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Greetings to all BJP Karyakartas on the party’s Sthapana Diwas. We remember all those who have worked tirelessly to strengthen our party over the years. This day inspires us to renew our commitment to India’s progress and work towards realizing the dream of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).”

Reaffirming the government’s focus on national development, the Prime Minister also highlighted the party’s ongoing commitment to good governance, which has been reflected in the historic electoral mandates the BJP has received in Lok Sabha elections, state assembly elections, and local body polls across the country.

PM Modi also underscored the BJP’s focus on inclusive development, stating, “Our governments will continue to serve society and ensure all-round development.” He praised the role of party workers in spreading the message of good governance at the grassroots level, noting, “I am proud of the way our Karyakartas work day and night, serving the poor, downtrodden, and marginalized. Their energy and enthusiasm are truly motivating.”

The BJP’s roots can be traced back to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS), founded by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in 1951. The BJS, which was established as a response to the dominance of the Indian National Congress and in collaboration with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), laid the ideological and organizational foundation for the BJP. Though the BJP was formally launched in 1980, its ideological base is deeply linked to the values of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
