New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra was forced to leave the field after a scary incident during their ODI tri-series match against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium. While attempting a catch in the 38th over, Ravindra was struck in the forehead by the ball. The incident is being attributed to the stadium’s poor floodlighting, raising concerns about Ravindra’s continued participation in the tournament.
New Zealand Cricket released a statement confirming that Ravindra sustained a laceration to his forehead, which was treated on the ground. He is “otherwise well” and has cleared the initial concussion assessment, but will continue to be monitored.
The incident occurred when Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah hit a shot towards Ravindra at deep backward square leg. The ball was traveling quickly, and Ravindra appeared to lose sight of it in the poor lighting, resulting in the ball striking him in the face. He immediately fell to the ground, bleeding. Team medical staff attended to him before he was taken off the field for further treatment.
New Zealand went on to win the match, defeating Pakistan by 78 runs. Glenn Phillips smashed an unbeaten 106, while Kane Williamson contributed 58 and Daryl Mitchell scored 81, leading the Black Caps to a total of 330/6. Pakistan were bowled out for 252 in 47.5 overs in their chase.
