DGP reviewed Republic Day Preparations in various places of upper Assam including Dibrugarh.
Speaking on rat-hole mining, DGP GP Singh stated, “Rat-hole mining is being carried out in Margherita, Ledo, and Lekhapani. The Chief Minister informed me about these locations. Following this, a meeting was held with administrative officials, forest department personnel, and representatives from Coal India. Instructions have been given to shut down all such mining activities within seven days.
The operation has already begun, and since yesterday, two illegal mining activities within the Northeast Coalfields lease area have been identified and stopped.
This morning, the entire area of Umrangshu was surveyed. While no new mining activity was found, instructions were given to seize leftover coal from previous illegal mining operations. The entire process will be completed within seven days.”
Regarding the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, the DGP said “We have discussed the necessary precautions and measures to ensure peaceful celebrations. I have reviewed the arrangements in the region over the past two days, and I am confident that the people of Assam will celebrate Republic Day peacefully.”
Speaking about his new role, DGP GP Singh added: “It is an honor for me that the Central and State Governments have entrusted me with this responsibility. With my prior experience in Assam, I am confident that we can achieve significant progress in various regions.”
