A total of 21 players from Assam have entered the third round of various weight categories in the junior and sub-junior divisions of the REC National Open Talent Search Boxing Championship, which is currently being held in Guwahati.
The competition is being organized by the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) with the support of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
In the ongoing competition at the Indoor Stadium of the SAI Centre in Paltan Bazar in Guwahati, Assam’s Monika Doley and Liza Nath won their respective matches in the 44 kg category of the junior girls’ division.
Prashant Rajbongshi and Deepankar Das secured victories in the boys’ junior 44 kg category, while Himanshu Bora in the 46 kg, Nipen Sinha in the 54 kg, and Sahiman Newar in the 57 kg category advanced to the next round.
On the other hand, in the sub-junior girls’ category, Priyanka in the 40 kg, Asmita Roy, Pabisha Sandikoi in the 43 kg, Parismita Saikia, Premika Basumatary, Prithik Mushahary in the 46 kg, and Rimpi Pegu in the 49 kg secured victories. In the sub-junior boys’ category, Aditya Rajbhar, Ayan Saikia in the 40 kg, Lunmin Khongsa, Neeraj, Lakshyajit Chutia in the 43 kg, Dhananjay Boro in the 46 kg, and Lachit in the 49 kg qualified for the next round by winning their respective bouts.
Prior to this, the competitions in the elite and youth divisions for both men and women were successfully completed. Assam secured a total of 16 medals in various weight categories in the elite and youth divisions, including two gold, six silver, and eight bronze medals. The competition will conclude on September 30.
