SAI Regional Centre Guwahati and Young India Organises Fit India Event for Divyang children

Ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, SAI Regional Centre Guwahati organised a special Fit India Event with the Divyang children across age groups at its Paltan Bazar premise on December 1.

The Fit India Mission, launched on the National Sports Day in 2019 aims to create awareness on healthy and active lifestyle for all under the slogan – Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz (Daily 30 minutes for health). With this objective, SAI organised a Fit India programme for Divyang children, parents, and other stakeholders on Sunday towards an inclusive Fit India.

Approximately 150 Divyang children participated in competitive run under the supervision of SAI coaches following words of motivation from Assam’s 1st female Athletics National Champion Tayabun Nisha. In her speech as the Chief Guest of the event, she emphasized on engaging in physical activities every day and inclusion of meditation and yoga in daily routine.

Sports Science experts from SAI demonstrated exercises that Divyang children can incorporate in their 30 minutes of daily physical exercises. Parents were encouraged to lead by example and engage with their children. Further, as nutrition is a key component of fitness, an awareness session with the theme – winter healthy food – was also organized. SAI Nutrition expert talked about winter super foods for boosting immunity in this season. Before the run, a physio warm-up session was taken by the SAI Physiotherapist.

D.K.Mittal, Executive Director SAI Guwahati delivering his keynote speech said that SAI and Government of India are committed to the well-being of all towards inclusive Fit India. He mentioned about recent initiatives taken towards development of para-sports in the country.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, additional Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment was present as Guest of Honor.

Prakash Agarwal, Young India Chairman and Smt. Ronak Khetawat, Co-chairman Young India were also present in the event. They expressed gratitude to SAI for this collaboration. Smt. Keteki Bordoloi, Director Shishu Sarathi also expressed willingness to be part of such initiatives in the future.

The event concluded with distribution of prizes to winners and Fit India caps to all participant children as token of appreciation.

Divyang children from multiple schools and NGOs such as Shishu Sarathi, Asha Neer Homestay, North-East College of Hearing Impaired, Purvottar Institute,Home Neurodevelopmental Institute and Autism Cenre, Prachya Vidya Niketan participated in the event.
