The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, today organised a send-off programme for 51 state youths who will participate in the 28th National Youth Festival. The festival, scheduled to take place from January 10-12, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, is a flagship event under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
The send-off programme was graced by C. H. Vijayashankar, Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said,”It gives me immense pride to flag off the 51 outstanding youths from Meghalaya who will represent our state at the 20th national level youth festival in Delhi. This prestigious event celebrates the vision of Viksit Bharat and provides a platform for our young leaders to showcase their talent and ideas before the nation.”
He urged the participants to perform and share their ideas to inspire others, bringing pride to the state of Meghalaya, and that the youth should be courageous and collectively responsible to achieve their goals and dream.
The Governor also said that on returning back to the state, the participants will be invited in the presence of Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister, where they both shall honour the participants. “I assure you- nothing is impossible. I congratulate and wish you all great success in this incredible journey. Travel safely, perform beautifully and make Meghalaya proud of you,” he said.
The 51 selected youths, comprising 21 participants for the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue and 30 participants for traditional events, were chosen from the 5-day-long State Level Youth Exchange Programme held from November 3-7, 2024, at Convocation Hall, NEHU Campus, Shillong. Three escorting officials will head the team to New Delhi to present their innovation vision and ideas for a Viksit Bharat.
