Guwahati, June 16 (NKTV): The historic Dikhow Bridge in Sivasagar, built by the British in the pre-independence era, is today struggling to survive. Built in 1935, the mid section of the bridge could be lifted to allow ships to pass; however, the same is presently not functional.

The bridge now serves pedestrians of the region as vehicles are not allowed to ply over it because of its dilapidated state. Almost 80% of the bridge’s pillars have metamorphosed to ruins and currents of the Dikhow might wash them away at any moment.

Locals have urged the administration and government to repair and conserve the bridge as it is a part of Assam’s rich history.
