Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the prestigious Srimanta Sankardeva Award 2023 will be presented to renowned classical dancer Smt. Sonal Mansingh. The award ceremony is scheduled for April 25, where President Droupadi Murmu will confer the honour.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister highlighted Smt. Mansingh’s exceptional contributions to Indian classical dance and her relentless efforts in promoting Indian cultural heritage on the global stage. “This award is a recognition of her lifelong dedication in showcasing the richness of Indian dance forms to the world,” Dr. Sarma said.
The Srimanta Sankardeva Award is one of Assam’s highest cultural honours, named after the 15th-century saint-reformer, artist, and scholar Srimanta Sankardeva. It is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the fields of art, culture, and social service.
Smt. Sonal Mansingh, an eminent Bharatanatyam and Odissi dancer, has been a prominent cultural ambassador for India for decades. She is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
The event is expected to witness the presence of dignitaries and artists from across the country.
