Tata Group unveils ₹27,000 crore semiconductor facility in Assam, promising 15 billion chips annually

The plant’s Bhoomi Pujan (foundation stone laying) ceremony was held on 3rd August 2024 at the project site at Jagiroad in Morigaon district in the presence of Honourable Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma; Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran; Radhir Thakur, CEO,Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd; Puneet Chhattwal, MD & CEO, Indian Hotels Company Limited, Assam Industry Ministers, Bimal Borah; Water resource minister Pijush Hazarika; Power Minister Nandita Garlosa; Revenue Minister, Jogen Mohan; Chief Secretary, Ravi Kota and Chairman, FICCI Northeast, Ranjit Barthakur.

“At its capacity, it will employ 27,000 people, 15,000 direct jobs and additional 12,000 indirect jobs. We want to move fast. We are trying to accelerate the building of this factory. We hope sometime in 2025 we will be able to complete this facility and quickly start operations,” Chandrasekaran said.

“In this initiative of setting up a Rs 27,000 crore semiconductor assembling and testing unit in Jagiroad, the ‘true son of Assam,’ Ranjit Barthakur has helped the Assam Government from the initial stages. For this, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and thank him.”
