Guwahati, June 28 (NKTV): Rupa Hazarika, member of Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) visited Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) on Sunday (June 27, 2021) and enquired about 11 children, who have been admitted after testing Covid-19 positive. The children and five caretakers of a children home were shifted to TMCH for better care.
During her visit to TMCH, Hazarika took stock of the condition of the children and the facilities being provided to the affected children. She also held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, additional deputy commissioners, District Children Protection Officer (DCPO), chairperson and members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Juvenile Justice Board, Sonitpur (JJB) to know about the steps already taken to take care of children affected by Covid-19. During the meeting, Hazarika emphasised on having necessary facilities in the hospitals and at the TMCH to tackle further spread of Covid-19 among children. Hazarika also stressed on having special facilities to take care of children with special needs, who may get infected with Covid-19 in future.
The DC Sonitpur and the district level health department officials said all necessary steps have been taken to take care of the children at TMCH. Since there are media reports that some more children have been infected with Covid-19 in other districts ( Nagaon, Jorhat, Diprugarh etc) Hazarika said ASCPCR will soon write to all DCs and joint directors of health to urgently take measures to take care of such children and be prepared to tackle any adverse situation. The ASCPCR wishes speedy recovery of the children admitted at TMCH and in other hospitals/Covid care centres across Assam.
