A one day Trekking expedition was organized by the Mountaineering Club and NCC unit in collaboration with IQAC of DCB Girls’ College on 15th December 2023 at Garbhanga Forest Reserve, Baisistha,Guwahati. Parbat Koinya Ms.Dhanmaya Chetri graced the occasion as the chief guest and took part in the flag off ceremony of the expedition.
In her speech she recalled her Trishul Mount way back in 1979 where she herself was an NCC Cadet of DCB Girls college and had successfully scaled the Trishul peak of the Himalayan ranges. She also stressed on the need to preserve the forests and the mountains, the flora and the fauna for posterity and maintain the ecology of the environment. 13 cadets along with team leader Captain Dorothy G Momin (ANO , NCC UNIT) Ms.Ruli Dutta (CTO NCC UNIT) of DCB Girls college were accompanied by two professional guides,Mr.Bikram Boro and Mr.BhubenshwarPrasad and assisted by Forest Guard personnel in the 7 hour long trek which began at 8.30 in the morning and ended at 3.30 pm.
The trekkers were briefed on the rules and regulations related to Trekking by Mr.Bikram Boro before entering the Forest range which highlighted on the discipline, cooperation, and team work necessary for a successful trek. The team covered approximately 20,000 steps on hilly terrain experiencing the majesty of the hills, the beautiful flora and fauna, streams and waterfalls,paddy fields during the trek. They enjoyed breakfast and lunch amidst nature and carried the waste with themselves, learning not to pollute the Forest. It was a successful Trekking expedition and the trekkers expressed their gratitude to the Department of Forest for granting them the permission and providing necessary security for this wonderful adventure activity
